The Pneumatic Control System is a critical component that manages the starting, stopping, and emergency shutdown of the main engine in emergency control and/or bridge control (BMS) modes. It ensures safe and precise timing, enabling proper engine operation during maneuvers, including starting, stopping, and controlling ahead/astern propeller rotations.

Studies and service records show that most starting failures of main engines occur due to lack of maintenance of pneumatic maneuvering system components. This often results in costly delays or accidents. As per MAN B&W service letter SL2001-394, system components should be overhauled every 2 years. However, based on our experience, this interval can extend to 5 years if control air is kept clean from particles, water, and oil.

With more than 100 vessels serviced worldwide, TK Marine Solutions Global offers complete overhaul, maintenance, and troubleshooting services — including spare parts supply — handled by our experienced service engineers.
